Privacy Policy
Last updated
This policy explains what data isdownus.com collects when you visit it, report a problem or post a comment, what we use it for and who else receives it. The site has no accounts: we never ask you to sign up.
1. What we collect
When you visit a page. Our servers log technical data such as your IP address, browser, the page you open and the time. Our analytics and ad partners collect similar data through cookies (see below).
When you report a problem. We store the service, the problem you picked, the time, your IP address and an approximate location from it: country, region, city and rough coordinates.
When you post a comment. We store the text, the name you type (it can be left empty), the time, your IP address and the same approximate location.
When you vote on or flag a comment. We store a one-way hash of your IP address, not the address itself, so the same visitor cannot vote twice.
When you contact us. We receive your name, email address and message.
2. How we use it
- to show where and when people have problems with a service, as counts, charts and maps;
- to stop spam, fake reports and abuse, for example by limiting how many reports one address can send;
- to moderate comments;
- to keep the site working and secure, and to understand which pages are used;
- to show ads, which pay for the site;
- to answer you when you contact us.
We do not sell personal data, and we do not use your reports or comments to build a profile of you.
3. What is public
Comments are shown on the site with the name you typed, the time and your approximate city or region. Reports are shown only as totals: counts per problem, per hour and per area. Your IP address is never shown.
Do not put anything in a comment that you do not want the public to see. We remove addresses, phone numbers and other personal details when we find them.
4. Cookies and local storage
- Session cookie. Set by our site so pages and forms work. It is deleted when you close the browser.
- Analytics. Google Analytics, loaded through Google Tag Manager, uses cookies to count visits and see how pages are used.
- Advertising. Google AdSense may use cookies to show ads and measure them, and depending on your choices and location to show ads based on your interests. You can manage this in Google's ad settings.
- Local storage. Your browser keeps a few settings for our pages only: the time zone you picked, when you last sent a report (so the form can tell you to wait) and your comment votes. They never leave your device.
You can block or delete cookies in your browser; the site still works without them.
5. Who receives data
- ip-api.com receives the IP address of a report or comment and returns its approximate location.
- Google provides analytics and ads. See how Google uses data from sites that use its services.
- Our hosting provider stores the site and its database.
We also disclose data when the law requires it, or to protect the site and its visitors from abuse.
These providers may process data in other countries, including the United States, where data protection law can differ from yours.
6. How long we keep it
Reports and comments, with their IP address and location, are kept for as long as they are part of a service's history. Comments we remove are no longer shown but may be kept to recognize repeated spam. Server logs are kept for a short time for security.
You can ask us to delete a comment you posted at any time.
7. Your rights
Depending on where you live, for example in the European Union, the United Kingdom, California, Canada, Australia, Brazil or South Africa, you may have the right to:
- ask what data we hold about you and get a copy;
- have it corrected or deleted;
- object to or restrict how we use it;
- withdraw consent you gave, for example for cookies;
- complain to your data protection authority.
Because the site has no accounts, tell us the page, the time and the text of your comment or report so we can find it. We may ask for details to confirm it is yours.
8. Security
The site is served only over HTTPS, and access to the database is limited. No method of storing or sending data is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee it.
9. Children
The site is not meant for children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect their data. If you believe a child has posted personal details, contact us and we will remove them.
10. Changes
We may update this policy. The date of the latest revision appears at the top of this page.
11. Contact
Questions or requests about your data: use the contact page. The rules for using the site are in the Terms of Use.
