Is it just me?
If others are not reporting problems, try these steps first.
- Update the Copilot extension
Older Copilot extensions cannot talk to GitHub's servers. Update the GitHub Copilot extension in your editor on every computer where it is installed.
- Sign out of Copilot and back in
'Could not connect to server. Extension activation failed' means Copilot could not get a token. Sign out of Copilot in your editor, then sign back in.
- Check for excluded files
On Business and Enterprise plans, admins can exclude files. A crossed-out Copilot icon in the status bar means the open file is excluded, so no suggestions appear.
- Wait after a rate limit error
'You've hit a rate limit' means too many Copilot requests in a short time. Wait and try again, or switch to another model.

How we decide the status
The status comes from user reports, compared with what is normal for this time of day.
-
No problems
Reports are within the usual range for this time of day, or there are only a few of them.
-
Possible problems
In the last hour there were at least 4 reports and more than the top of the usual range.
-
Problems detected
In the last hour there were at least 10 reports and at least twice the top of the usual range.
The usual range comes from the same time of day over the last 4 weeks. Each report is counted once per person per 30 minutes. The status is based on what users report; it is not official information from the service. We update it on every page view. Our methodology
About GitHub Copilot
GitHub Copilot is an AI coding assistant from GitHub that suggests code, answers questions and runs coding agents. Developers use it inside VS Code, Visual Studio, JetBrains IDEs and other editors, on github.com and in the GitHub CLI. It needs a signed-in GitHub account with a Copilot plan, and GitHub posts incidents for Copilot and its other services on its status page.
GitHub Copilot status FAQ
Quick answers about GitHub Copilot outages.
Is GitHub Copilot down right now?
No. Right now there are no widespread problems with GitHub Copilot. If it is not working for you, the problem is probably on your side. See "Is it just me?" above.
Why isn't GitHub Copilot working for me?
Most problems are local. Restart the app or device, check your internet connection, and make sure the app is up to date. If many other people are reporting the same problem, GitHub Copilot itself is probably having an outage and you need to wait.
How do I report a problem with GitHub Copilot?
Use the "I have a problem" button at the top of this page and pick what is not working. Reports are anonymous. They help other people see right away if GitHub Copilot is down for everyone.
How does IsDownUS decide if GitHub Copilot is down?
We count problem reports from users every 15 minutes and compare the last hour with what is normal for that time of day over the past week. A small rise shows "Possible problems". Many more reports than normal show "Problems detected". The status is based on user reports only and is not official information from GitHub Copilot.
Why does GitHub Copilot say it could not connect to server?
Either your account has no Copilot plan or Copilot could not get a token from GitHub. Sign out of Copilot in your editor and sign back in. If it still fails, check GitHub's status page for a Copilot incident.

Why is GitHub Copilot not suggesting code in some files?
Your organization or repository admin may have excluded those files. The Copilot icon in the status bar shows a line through it; hover over it to see which setting applies. Changes to exclusions can take up to 30 minutes to apply.
