Is it just me?
If others are not reporting problems, try these steps first.
- Keep your old phone until you restore
Back up Authenticator before switching phones. Backups only restore to the same type of phone: iPhone to iPhone or Android to Android.
- Turn on iCloud backup on iPhone
On iPhone, Authenticator backups need iCloud Drive, iCloud Keychain and iCloud Backup turned on.
- Re-register work accounts after restoring
Work and school accounts are not backed up. After restoring, sign in and register them again on the new phone.

About Microsoft Authenticator
Microsoft Authenticator is Microsoft's app for sign-in approvals, one-time codes and passkeys for Microsoft and other accounts. People use it on iPhone and Android to approve sign-ins to work, school and personal Microsoft accounts and to store codes for other sites. Problems usually show up as approval notifications that do not arrive, codes that are rejected or accounts lost after a phone change.
Microsoft Authenticator status FAQ
Quick answers about Microsoft Authenticator outages.
Is Microsoft Authenticator down right now?
No. Right now there are no widespread problems with Microsoft Authenticator. If it is not working for you, the problem is probably on your side. See "Is it just me?" above.
Why isn't Microsoft Authenticator working for me?
Most problems are local. Restart the app or device, check your internet connection, and make sure the app is up to date. If many other people are reporting the same problem, Microsoft Authenticator itself is probably having an outage and you need to wait.
How do I report a problem with Microsoft Authenticator?
Use the "I have a problem" button at the top of this page and pick what is not working. Reports are anonymous. They help other people see right away if Microsoft Authenticator is down for everyone.
How does IsDownUS decide if Microsoft Authenticator is down?
We count problem reports from users every 15 minutes and compare the last hour with what is normal for that time of day over the past week. A small rise shows "Possible problems". Many more reports than normal show "Problems detected". The status is based on user reports only and is not official information from Microsoft Authenticator.
Why are my Microsoft Authenticator accounts missing on my new phone?
Accounts only restore from a backup on the same type of phone, and work or school accounts must be signed in and registered again. Accounts backed up on iPhone cannot be restored on Android.
