Is it just me?

If others are not reporting problems, try these steps first.

  1. Ask your bank if the card supports Apple Pay

Apple does not approve cards. Check with your card issuer that your card works with Apple Pay.

  2. Update your iPhone and turn on 2FA

Install the latest iOS and make sure two-factor authentication is on for your Apple Account before adding a card.

  3. Call your bank on 'Could Not Add Card'

Messages like Could Not Add Card, Invalid Card or Card Device Limit come from your bank or card issuer. Contact them.

About Apple Pay

Apple Pay is Apple's way to pay in stores, in apps and online with cards saved in the Wallet app. People use it on iPhone, Apple Watch, iPad and Mac, and it also handles Apple Cash and transit cards in some cities. Problems usually show up as payments that are declined at the terminal, cards that cannot be added or Wallet not opening, and Apple lists outages on its System Status page.

Apple Pay status FAQ

Quick answers about Apple Pay outages.

Is Apple Pay down right now?

No. Right now there are no widespread problems with Apple Pay. If it is not working for you, the problem is probably on your side. See "Is it just me?" above.

Why isn't Apple Pay working for me?

Most problems are local. Restart the app or device, check your internet connection, and make sure the app is up to date. If many other people are reporting the same problem, Apple Pay itself is probably having an outage and you need to wait.

How do I report a problem with Apple Pay?

Use the "I have a problem" button at the top of this page and pick what is not working. Reports are anonymous. They help other people see right away if Apple Pay is down for everyone.

How does IsDownUS decide if Apple Pay is down?

We count problem reports from users every 15 minutes and compare the last hour with what is normal for that time of day over the past week. A small rise shows "Possible problems". Many more reports than normal show "Problems detected". The status is based on user reports only and is not official information from Apple Pay.

Why can't I add my card to Apple Pay?

Your card issuer may not support Apple Pay, your software may be out of date, or two-factor authentication is off. If you see Could Not Add Card, Invalid Card or Card Device Limit, contact your bank.
