If others are not reporting problems, try these steps first.
- Retry the prompt or start a new chat
Most Gemini error codes, like (5), (7) or 1099, mean a temporary processing issue. Send the prompt again, or open a New chat to start without the earlier context.
- Remove the attached file and try again
If your prompt has a file, image or video, remove it and retry. Make sure the file type is supported and under the upload limit.
- Wait 5 minutes after 'Too many requests'
This message means high traffic or a temporary usage limit on your account. Wait a few minutes before sending the prompt again.
- Check Connected Apps for Gmail and Docs tasks
'I cannot fulfill this request' often means the needed connected app, such as Google Workspace, is off. Turn it on in Gemini's Connected Apps settings.
- Refresh the page or restart the app
Reload the Gemini tab in your browser, or close and reopen the Gemini mobile app. This also clears the 'Terms of service are updated' message.

Is Gemini down right now?
No. Right now there are no widespread problems with Gemini. If it is not working for you, the problem is probably on your side. See "Is it just me?" above.
Why isn't Gemini working for me?
Most problems are local. Restart the app or device, check your internet connection, and make sure the app is up to date. If many other people are reporting the same problem, Gemini itself is probably having an outage and you need to wait.
How do I report a problem with Gemini?
Use the "I have a problem" button at the top of this page and pick what is not working. Reports are anonymous. They help other people see right away if Gemini is down for everyone.
How does IsDownUS decide if Gemini is down?
We count problem reports from users every 15 minutes and compare the last hour with what is normal for that time of day over the past week. A small rise shows "Possible problems". Why does Gemini say 'Something went wrong' or show a number like (5)?
Numbers in parentheses and codes over 1000 mean Gemini hit an unexpected issue with your prompt. Retry, start a new chat, remove attachments, or check your connection. If it keeps happening, send feedback with the error number.
