How we decide the status
The status comes from user reports, compared with what is normal for this time of day.
-
No problems
Reports are within the usual range for this time of day, or there are only a few of them.
-
Possible problems
In the last hour there were at least 4 reports and more than the top of the usual range.
-
Problems detected
In the last hour there were at least 10 reports and at least twice the top of the usual range.
The usual range comes from the same time of day over the last 4 weeks. Each report is counted once per person per 30 minutes. The status is based on what users report; it is not official information from the service. We update it on every page view. For uscis.gov we also run our own automated checks: if two checks in a row fail, the page shows problems even without reports. Our methodology
About USCIS
USCIS, US Citizenship and Immigration Services, is the federal agency that handles green cards, citizenship, work permits and other immigration benefits. People use its website and their USCIS online account to file forms, check case status and respond to notices. Problems usually show up as the case status tool not loading, sign-in or two-step verification errors, or online filing that fails to submit.
USCIS status FAQ
Quick answers about USCIS outages.
Is USCIS down right now?
No. Right now there are no widespread problems with USCIS. If it is not working for you, the problem is probably on your side. See "Is it just me?" above.
Why isn't USCIS working for me?
Most problems are local. Restart the app or device, check your internet connection, and make sure the app is up to date. If many other people are reporting the same problem, USCIS itself is probably having an outage and you need to wait.
How do I report a problem with USCIS?
Use the "I have a problem" button at the top of this page and pick what is not working. Reports are anonymous. They help other people see right away if USCIS is down for everyone.
How does IsDownUS decide if USCIS is down?
We count problem reports from users every 15 minutes and compare the last hour with what is normal for that time of day over the past week. A small rise shows "Possible problems". Many more reports than normal show "Problems detected". The status is based on user reports only and is not official information from USCIS.
How do I get into my USCIS account without my two-step verification phone?
On the verification code page, choose Enter Backup Code and enter the backup code you got when you created your account. After signing in, add a new two-step verification method.
